This is one of my dream cars! I actually prefer the non-fastback Mustangs, and 1970 is my favorite year for them. I got to drive a 1965 Mustang convertible. I could hardly fit in it, due to the steering wheel placement. I don't know if that was because it was a custom column and wheel, or just normal anyways. Either way, beautiful car, perfect condition, you are so lucky to have it.
Lucky about driving a '65! The older cars were awkward to get in, all my American cars and my dad's Mustang all have low steering wheels, I know Cougar's and Mustang's were optioned with "tilt-away steering," which was pretty much just where the steering wheel tilted away when the car door opened for better access inside. My Beetle is the only one that isn't awkward to get in, although the steering wheel is significantly smaller than stock. It was the way they were built then unfortunately.
I got the stock steering wheel in my Thing, which is a bit awkward to get into. It's a massive wheel! Plus the high sides are a bit tough sometimes too. But I love that car. The air-cooled VWs are amazing, and I feel lucky to have a Thing, because too few people know what it is, so it's kind of unique. I hate that I got it through losing my grandfather when he was only 62, and I was 4. But it's a good thing to remember him by, because he drove us around a lot in it.
or fastback?
